‘I don’t know if we were ever friends’: Cindy Crawford admits ex-husband Richard Gere is ‘like a stranger’ to her
Cindy Crawford has spoken candidly about her marriage to Richard Gere, revealing that the actor is ‘like a stranger’ to her 20 years after their divorce.
The supermodel was 26 when she wed the movie star, who at the time was 42, and admits that she was very ‘young’ to be getting married.
‘I didn’t think I was young, though, but I was young,’ she said during an appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. ‘I was with Richard for like six years, but I was only married for two years.’

Although Cindy claimed they were married for just two years, in actual fact the couple tied the knot in a Vegas wedding in 1991 and divorced in 1995.
When Maron asked the 49-year-old is she is still friends with Richard, now 66, she said honestly: ‘We’re friendly, but I think it’s almost like he’s gone back to being, like, “Richard Gere” again, like a stranger, because we don’t really see each other that much.’
She added: ‘I think part of the problem in our relationship was that we were a lot of other things, but I don’t know if we were ever friends – like peers, because I was young, and he was Richard Gere.
‘And then, as I started kind of growing up and growing into myself – it’s hard to change the nature of a relationship once you’re already in it.’

Nowadays, Cindy is happily married to Rande Gerber, and they will celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary in May.
The beauty explained during the podcast that their relationship is so successful because – unlike with Richard – they are close friends, and she has always been able to be herself with him.
‘I think why Rande and I really work is that we were friends first,’ Cindy said. ‘I never pretended to like baseball or meditation or whatever the version is.’

Cindy and Rande have two children together: 16-year-old son Presley and daughter Kaia, 14.
Richard married model and actress Carey Lowell in 2002, and they separated in September 2013 after 11 years of marriage.
The former couple, who have 16-year-old son Homer together, are currently in the middle of divorce proceedings.
Meanwhile, Cindy announced last month during an interview with United Airlines’ Rhapsody magazine that she wants to ‘move on’ from modelling when she turns 50 on February 20.

However the iconic supermodel then backtracked, writing on Instagram last week: ‘Every year, I tell my kids I’m retiring. It’s a running joke in our family. And yet every year, opportunities pop up that really excite me.
‘While it’s true that I’m eager to shift my focus a bit to concentrate on my businesses, friends and family – I’m not making any final statements (not all headlines tell the whole story!).’
She added: ‘I have loved being part of the fashion industry for the past 30 years – and if that time has taught me anything, it’s this: never say never. Thanks for all the support, I’m so excited for what 2016 hold! xo Cindy.’
